Ask a Pol asks:

Does your committee — Senate Agriculture Committee — have any plan? Or you guys don't need to touch the stablecoin bill?

Key Boozman:

“We don't need to touch that, but you know the consensus is that a number of these entities belong under the jurisdiction of the CFTC [Commodity Futures Trading Commission], so that's where we'll come into play,” Boozman exclusively told us. “So we'll be working with Banking and Financial Services over on the House side.”

Caught our ear:

“Waiting and watching and encouraged that this is a really good bipartisan effort,” Boozman told us. “We've got an excellent chance of actually getting some good legislation passed this year that protects the consumer and then also allows the industry to grow, so that we don’t lose it ourselves.”

TRANSCRIPT: Sen. John Boozman (3-14-2025)

SCENE: The day after stablecoin passed the Senate Banking Committee in March, Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo runs into Senate Agriculture Chair John Boozman walking through the US Capitol…

What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!

Matt Laslo: “How are you feeling about — did your staff brief you on the Senate Banking passing the stablecoin bill yesterday?”

John Boozman: “They did.”

ML: “They passed it like 16 — 8…”

*Laslo was OFF — it passed Senate Banking 18-6

JB: “Bipartisan?”

ML: “Yeah. [Rankling Member Elizabeth] Warren was pretty, uh, vehemently opposed and offered a bunch of amendments to try and kill it, but they all failed. Does your committee have any plan — or you guys don't need to touch that bill?”
